SUSTAINABILITY AT OUR FIRST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

On Saturday the 31st of August 2019 we celebrated the first birthday of our Cheltenham Shop, and we sure did celebrate in style!
The party began at 15:30  and the first free shuttle bus from No.131 in Cheltenham town center arrived full to the maximum. Over the course of the evening we welcomed a total of 450 people on site The attendees ate the best local food from The Tavern, danced to music by The Funky Jets & DJ Lisa Unique and of course, enjoyed pints of the best award winning cider! People danced and drank their end of summer cares away until the party finished at 21:00.
Everyone who attended certainly had a great time but what they may not have noticed about the event was the sustainable efforts behind it.
At Dunkertons it is essential to us that we do everything with sustainability at the forefront of our actions. We make our cider in a sustainable manor and this extends into other aspects of our business, such as events like our 1st birthday party!
Here are 4 ways that we made sure our event was kind to the planet!
1) The 'I am Not A Plastic Cup' cups!
The cups we poured pints of our award winning organic cider into may have looked and felt like regular plastic cups but are actually made from renewable cornstarch. Single use plastic is a massive environmental issue and something Dunkertons say no to!
2) Biodegradable Glitter
Our glitter bar was extremely popular both with children and their parents! We glittered the faces of people of all ages all afternoon and evening.
BUT what you may have not noticed is that the glitter we used was actually 100% biodegradable. We bought it from 'ECOSTARDUST' who make their glitter from plant cellulose, derived predominantly from sustainable farmed, eucalyptus trees. Meaning it is both 100% recycled and biodegradable.
Also 100% of the money made from the glitter bar went straight to The People's Trust for Endangered Species. Thanks to everyone who donated we raised £100 for the charity!

3) Sustain Young Enterprise & Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust
We welcomed some students from Balcarras School in Charlton Kings to promote their Young Enterprise business 'SUSTAIN.'
SUSTAIN won the award for 'Gloucestershire Best Company' for their children's book 'The Adventures of the Ecocrew.' An illustrated book to educate children on sustainability. Here is the SUSTAIN team with Julian Dunkerton himself.
We also welcomed Tom from Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust with a stand to talk to people about their incredible local charity. We urge everyone to visit their website to take a look at the incredible work they do locally.
4) Local Local Local!
We owe the biggest thank you Ronnie Bonetti and his team from The Tavern for providing the food for the evening. The Tavern are based in Cheltenham and are a member of the Lucky Onion Group also owed by Julian Dunkerton.
They source all their food locally which is really important to us at Dunkertons as not only does it drastically reduce the polluting emissions needed for transport but it supports local businesses.
If you attended the event then thank you for making the night as amazing as it was - we loved having all of you.
If you enjoyed our organic ciders and perry then remember to head to our website where you can order all of them direct to your door with free delivery.
Keep and eye on our website and social media platforms for news of upcoming events. We are planning on hosting a couple more exciting things later in the year!
