This blossom season in Herefordshire has been rather unusual.

Firstly, this Spring the weather has not been very good: a lot of rain, cool temperatures and, at times, high winds. These are all factors which can have a negative effect on the blossom. Also, this Spring instead of six or more weeks of successive blossoming of the different varieties the flowering has been rather patchy and sporadic. Until the last couple of weeks or so that is. The Breakwells Seedling, Dabinett and Yarlington Mill are in full flower at Hays Head and what a sight it is. The sunshine and blue skies showed the blossom at its best and with such good weather the bees and other insects were flying so pollination should be good.

A beautiful end to the blossom season at Dunkertons Hays Head orchards.
