Did you know that the UK throws away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in a single year – even though 8.4 million people are in food poverty?

Since opening our Cheltenham shop in 2018 we have consistently worked to keep our food wastage to a minimum and recently we have teamed up with Emmaus Gloucestershire.

Emmaus is a international charity with groups throughout the UK that support people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home and meaningful work in a community setting. The Gloucestershire branch accommodates previously homeless adults, known within Emmaus as 'companions' and supplies accommodation, all meals, basic clothing and toiletries, funded training and support within a secure environment.

Since July 2021, all food  sold in our Cheltenham Shop that would normally be destined for recycling is offered to Emmaus. The food is collected from us and it is then taken to their housing in Gloucester and is used for the companion's meals.
