Did you know that we are a Soil Association accredited organic producer? As such we work extremely hard to safeguard, support, and boost the natural environment around our business.
Dunkertons Cider Mill is set in the ancient parish of Pembridge, an area of farmland, woods and hedgerows where medieval half timbered villages meet the stone market towns of Wales.
We are resolutely preserving our hedgerows keeping some of them tall and dense. Meanwhile our internal hedges are being laid in rotation. They have been somewhat weakened overtime owing to the sheep and cattle searching for the ideal foliage to eat whilst the pigs search for an escape route down to the village.
Where the turn for tractors allows we have extra wide field margins of grasses and wild flowers to encourage wildlife to visit and flourish.
During the cider production we recycle the waste ‘pomace’ as cattle feed for neighboring farms, and use the lees from the fermentation process as fertiliser in our home orchards. We are always encouraging others to become organic cider apple suppliers to us as well.
Our packaging is limited to the essentials, and besides that the only paper we use is for our leaflet encouraging visitors to the mill and shop. It is there that we often find ourselves discussing what it means to be organic producers with our customers!
